As I have traveled over the past few years, one great place to go is Washington DC. It has its challenges considering the possible danger there. Still, the history and beauty is unmatched.
Most people look around in the daytime.
You don't know what you are missing if you don't go down at night.
One of the first places I went to was the Lincoln Memorial. Going at night can give you the ability to get pictures with no people. The quiet at night is refreshing and gives you time to reflect. When ever I go to DC I always make time to go to these steps and just sit.

Looking out over the mall from the Lincoln Memorial is just awesome.
This photo shows the Washington Monument and the WWII Memorial.
The Washington Monument is under construction and not lit well.
|
As they were building the WWII
Memorial they drained the
reflecting pool! You can see the
monument better at least.
|
Moving down the stairs and down
to the reflecting pool area you
can see the Capital Dome peeking
around the monument now.

The Lincoln Memorial.

As the crowds thin out some.
|
Finally, only a few people left.
This is a great time of night here.

the Lincoln Memorial behind it.

Views of the soldiers.
|
Closer up to a couple of them.
|
Behind the soldiers you can see
a wall of photos of soldiers of all
types in the blue light.
|
This wall of pictures is taken from
photos of actual soldiers and
is etched onto the wall.
|
Moving back to the north, you come to the Vietnam Wall.
Each day and night items are left at The Wall.
Each night these items are collected and stored.
This is a place of solemn reflection and solitude.
This is one of my favorite photos. It is hard to get a photo with no people.
I spent about an hour at The Wall to get this one.
I took several reflection shots too. This one was striking.

on the same night, Sept. 2006.

Here is a natural light photo of
the statue of the soldiers.

Working your way to the center of the mall, you come to the newly
constructed World War II Memorial near the Washington Monument.
|
Another late night but the photos
are so very much worth it.
|
This is a one of a kind photo.
This photos was not posed.
|
A closer look at the pillars.
|
The famous field of gold stars.
|
Finally, I got to go to the Jefferson Memorial one night at midnight.
This night I got some of the best photos I have ever taken.
The only other people here were security guards.
