Washington DC Photos
Washington DC, our nation's capital!
The image at the top of the page is the view from the Jefferson Memorial. You can see how beautiful it is in springtime when the cherry blossoms are blooming. Lucky me! It has its issues considering the possible danger there. Still, the history and beauty is unmatched! |

My work took me to DC many times and any free time I could get I spent on the mall. Most of that was at night. In the past I recommended that people go to the monuments at night because they are incredibly beautiful. The town is now so dangerous that I do not recommend that you do this unless you have a really large group to go with. Even then, be careful. It is too bad, because it really is amazing. I took a lot of pictures, so here goes.

The Washington Monument, the WWII Memorial and the Reflecting Pool from the Lincoln Memorial.
The monument is not well lit because it was under construction at the time.
At night at the Lincoln Memorial you can typically find some gaps in the people to get a picture. They do not like tripods, so it is not easy. I am sitting down pushing my camera against my day pack. During the day it is jammed and there is almost never a gap to get a complete picture.

The reflection pool is drained here. |
Moving left you see the capital dome.

The Lincoln Memorial busy with people late in the evening. |
The crowds starting to thin out some as it gets later.
|
There are only a few people left near midnight.

Here are a few more closer up.

Behind the soldiers you can see a wall lit up with blue light.

The images are actual soldiers, etched into the wall face.

Moving along The Mall in DC, you come to The Vietnam Wall.
Each day as people leave things, they are carefully collected and stored.
This is a place of quiet reflection and solitude.
I really liked the reflection images I got. These are also late, late night images.
Working your way toward the center of The Mall, you come to The World War II Memorial.

This is a photo I happened upon, I did not know the couple. It ends up being a pretty amazing shot.

The amazing field of Gold Stars. Sadly, this is one of two panels this size.
Finally one night I made it out to the Jefferson Memorial right before midnight. No people.
There is a security guard behind one of the posts. He walked behind knowing I was taking a picture.
There is nothing like a good day in the woods. Ignore your cell phone and relax.
